Turicum

The Quartetto Turicum brings together musicians from four different countries. Jiska Lambrecht (Belgium), Karolina Miśkowiec (Poland), Amir Liberson (Israel) and Maura Rickenbach (Switzerland) met at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Shortly after its foundation in 2021, the promising young string quartet was awarded Second Prize at the Kiwanis Chamber Music Competition in Zurich in 2022. Invitations to concerts and master classes followed. Highlights of their activities include a debut at the Tonhalle in Zurich with music by the famous Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa, a performance with the Gringolts Quartet at the Mizmorim Festival in Basel, and concerts for the Villa Musica Foundation in Germany.

The quartet, active in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium, was the winner in September of the Second Prize, with no First Prize awarded, of the prestigious Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition 2023, a prize that is giving the ensemble great international visibility.

The Turicum Quartet is artistically supervised by Ilya Gringolts (Gringolts Quartet), Markus Fleck (CasalQuartet) and Thomas Grossenbacher. He also participated in masterclasses with Hariolf Schlichtig (Cherubini Quartet).

'Turicum' is the ancient name for modern Zurich. As a Roman port and important meeting point, the settlement was a central place that received handicrafts from distant lands and exported them in new directions.
