Ticino Musica

The Ticino Musica Festival is a meeting of musicians, great Maestros, and young promising talents, coming from every part of the world, in which artistic expression and training are expertly blended to give both participants and the audience the opportunity to live a 360° musical experience.

This international meeting of young musicians has been going on since 1979, and today is known with the name Ticino Musica Festival. Since 1997 all activities of the festival were moved to Canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland.

Ticino Musica is also a touristic event of great relevance in Switzerland, which is why federal, cantonal and local authorities support our work every year. Founded in 1979, it has gained enormous experience over the years, beginning in Assisi and then in Riva del Garda (Italy). When the festival was moved to Ticino in 1997, it fully developed to reach its actual state.

Ticino Musica invites every year artists who have an impeccable international reputation both as pedagogues and as musicians, and who join together for our two-week full-immersion courses in singing, instrumental solo and chamber music performance, composition, contemporary music laboratory, as well as the international Opera Studio. The numerous participants, the seriousness with which they take part in all our activities, and the general atmosphere of profound artistic growth, demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of our efforts, and give a positive feedback to all of those who believe and sustain our work.

The possibility we offer to our participants to take part in many of our concerts, as solo performers or in chamber music ensembles, allows them to have a glance at their future professional careers, as they experience the real pressure of a well informed and numerous audience, the inquiring ear of their teachers and peers, and the presence of personalities from the music industry. To make this experience even more realistic, we work together with the press, the local Swiss radio and the TV so that a full coverage of the activities that take place during the festival is released in real time. This not only gives an extra input to our participants, but gives at the same time a greater meaning to the Festival as a whole.

Apart from being a cultural and social event, as mentioned before, Ticino Musica is also a touristic attraction. Each year we bring in Ticino a group of 500 people between students, teachers, supporting staff, parents and the like, all coming from different parts of the world, and have them interact with the general public in most major cities in the Canton, in smaller towns, in rural contexts, and in well recognized venues. This adds to the value of Ticino as a beautiful place, and contributes to the cultural development of what has become now our home town.
