Michael Höltzel
Michael Höltzel was born in Tübingen (Germany) and studied in Stuttgart (horn and viola) and at the Salzburg Mozarteum (horn and conducting).
He was Principal Horn with the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Münchner Philharmoniker. As a soloist Michael Höltzel has performed with well-known orchestras and conductors, and he has made a number of highly acclaimed recordings
For 28 years Höltzel was Professor for horn and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, where many currently internationally-renowned soloists and prizewinners were among his students, including Radovan Vlatkovic, Bruno Schneider, Eric Terwilliger, Esa Tapani and Alessio Allegrini.
The three volumes of Michael Höltzel’s Method for French Horn have been published by Schott International. The most advanced volume No. 3, which had been awarded a German Book Prize in 2001, is also available in English.
In 2005 / 2006 he was visiting professor at the School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana (USA), since 2006 he is Professor for Horn at the Hochschule für Music in Rostock.
Michael Höltzel currently lives with his family in Hamburg, Germany, where he also maintains a private, internationally diverse horn studio.
