Active in the ancient music as interpreter, researcher, producer and conductor, Lorenzo Ghirlanda lives in Berlin and has dedicated himself for a long time to the research about articulation techniques and the reconstruction of ancient brass instruments. The reconstruction of the soprano trombone of the 17th century is one of his latest project, connected with the cycle of Bach cantatas at the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
He was researcher for the Swiss National Fund and at present he collaborates in a project by the Research department at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana.

One production of the opera Alcina by Händel in 2008 brought him to collaborate with the Händel Festspiele Halle. And from 2011 again as conductor for further three opera projects with unpublished works by Händel
