Ticino Musica is an international meeting of young musicians coming from all around the world. The masterclasses give students the opportunity to have close contact with internationally renowned musicians on a daily basis. The simultaneous offer of courses for almost every orchestral instrument provides also the opportunity to for different chamber music ensembles. Also, the numerous concerts that take place during the two weeks of the masterclasses help preparing the young musicians for their future professional lives and enrich the cultural panorama of Ticino.
This international meeting of young musicians has been going on since 1979, and today is known with the name Ticino Musica international Classic. Since 1997 all activities of the festival were moved to Ticino Canton in southern Switzerland.
Ticino Musica is also a touristic event of great relevance to the region, and this is also why cantonal and city authorities sustain our work every year. Also official tourist offices and private sponsors believe in our work. Founded in 1978, our festival has gain enormous experience over the past 27 years, 15 of which in Assisi and Riva del Garda (Italy). When the festival was moved to Ticino, the festival fully developed to reach its actual state, involving students, singers and teachers of all ages and coming from all around the world.
Our teachers, all of which have an impeccable international reputation both as pedagogues and as musicians, join together for our two-week full-immersion courses in singing, opera interpretation, instrumental solo and chamber music specialization, composition, and contemporary music laboratory, all accompanied by the international Opera Studio. The numerous participants, the seriousness with which they take part of all our activities, and the general atmosphere of profound artistic growth, demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of our efforts, and give a positive feedback to all of those who believe and sustain our work.
The possibility we offer to our students to take part in many of our concerts, as solo performers or in chamber music ensembles, allows them to have a glance at their future professional careers, as they experience the real pressure of a well informed and numerous audience, the inquiring ear of their teachers and peers, and the presence of personalities from the music industry. To make this experience even more realistic, we work together with the press, the local Swiss radio and the TV so that a full coverage of the activities that take place during the festival is released in real time. This not only gives an extra input to our students, but gives at the same time a greater meaning to the Festival as a whole.
Apart from being a cultural and social event, as mentioned before, Ticino Musica is also a touristic attraction. Each year we bring in Ticino a group of 500 people between students, teachers, supporting staff, parents and the like, all coming from different parts of the world, and have them interact with the general public in most major cities in the Canton, in smaller towns, in rural contexts, and in well recognized venues. This adds to the value of Ticino as a beautiful place, and contributes to the cultural development of what has become now our home town.
